What do you do when you're out of video work?

Main Post:

I've had a couple of extremely slow months. I had two monthly clients, one of them cancelled their order on december and the other on february. Both are supposed to come back at some point, maybe with smaller requests, at least that's what they said. I am currently doing nothing, other than working on personal projects, reading, etc.

I'm not too worried because I have a couple of upcoming projects and pending payments, so I'm not gonna starve. But still, I think I need to find some strategy to get new clients or something. I already have a website runing with good SEO, I have clients coming in about once a month. I tried cold email outreach with no success, I also handed out business cards in the past and got nothing.

This is getting weird, not having anything to do. I'm starting to feel unemployed.

How to make 5760x2880 h265 60fps video work?

Main Post: How to make 5760x2880 h265 60fps video work?

Top Comment: You can either transcode it to 5760x2880 30fps h.264 or to 4096x2048 60fps h.265, or to ~4800x2400 60fps h.264. You just have to decide on a balance between resolution, frame rate and file size. In my opinion 4800x2400 60fps h.264 is almost the best of both worlds, but it comes at the expense of significantly larger file sizes which can create/compound streaming issues. And since this resolution/frame rate combination is pushing the decoder beyond its officially supported capabilities, depending on the nature of the clip you might need to choose some "safe" x264 encoder options to get a perfect result, which reduces compressibility further. (*this is because given the effective resolution and FOV of the Go anything above ~5120x2560 for stereo 180° clips actually ends up being downsampled in order for the visible portion of the clip, at the center, to match up 1:1 with the display pixels, and on-the-fly downsampling operations can result in aliasing)

TikTok Video Kit API, can't get video upload to work!

Main Post:

Hi,

I am working on an Express API that can upload TikTok videos on behalve of a user. This is the part of a route in my project that uploads the video. However I constantly get the error:

'expecting a binary field `video` in the form-data'.

I implemented it this way:

const form = new FormData() const file = await promises.readFile('video.mp4', 'binary') form.append('video', file) const videoResult = await fetch(https://openapi.tiktok.com/share/video/upload/open_id=${userId}&access_token=${accessToken}, { method: 'POST', headers: form.getHeaders(), body: form }) const videoData = await videoResult.json() console.log(videoData) res.send('ok!')

I already debugged and the other code is correct. The only part is the uploading of the actual video file. I have not yet worked with form data so I am suppose I am doing something wrong but I have been debugging for hours and can't seem to find the mistake. I am also sure that the video is to be found.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Formatting 2.0

Top Comment: Tiktok API is VERY ANNOYING. During 2024, I found myself combing through every post on StackOverflow, Reddit, and beyond just to figure out how to integrate it into my code... and when I FINALLY managed to learn the right way to create a post via API, OH SURPRISE—I can't make my posts PUBLIC TO EVERYONE? WHY, I asked myself? I read the docs and found out... you have to go through an endless TIKTOK audit just to upload a few videos monthly via API. Just DISGUSTING. SOOOO, what I did was go through the AUDIT and create an APP so everyone can upload their TikTok videos in just a few clicks with a single API call. Check it out: https://www.upload-post.com/ I let you post 10 monthly videos for FREE directly to public TIKTOK. Later, I'll start adding more platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn because their docs are just as bad—and each one makes your life IMPOSSIBLE if you just want to upload a single video. Enjoy!

After I share the link it appears the little circle indicate that something is loading for 1 second ,but then nothing happened. Any suggestions? thanks in advance

Top Comment: Hello there! This is the SproutVideo support team. We tested posting to Patreon from our end and ran into the same problem. However, we have verified that the issue lies with Patreon. We have submitted a couple of support requests to alert them and see if anything has changed with their platform recently. Could you please submit a request to Patreon as well, as a client of theirs, to help escalate the importance of the issue? https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I struggled to find work, so I started making YouTube videos, this is what happened.

Main Post:

In Uni, I did a Business Masters and quickly found a job doing Marketing for a company. I really hated it because while I had the tertiary qualifications, this job wasn't teaching me anything about the industry and I just sat a desk bored all day doing nothing.

I quit, which my mates said was maybe not a great idea because the job market at the time was pretty bad and I was struggling. I had a part time hustle to keep things going, but I needed something more stable yet I was struggling to get a job I wanted because everyone wanted experience despite me having a pretty good degree.

I thought screw it, I'm good at writing, I'm sure there is something I can do. I decided to write some opinion pieces on video games (reviews and retrospectives) and posted them to YouTube. I have had no experience doing video editing, or productions so things were slow. The only thing I would say I was naturally decent at was writing the actual content, but the video production part was a big struggle.

I hit 1000 subs, and got the partner goal and I was really happy. Still wasn't making much money, but ok I discovered I could build something. All of a sudden when I went to job interviews, I could showcase how I built up a community, how I knew how to write content, publish content and I had these other skills outside of my degree. Btw whenever I got asked the "Name a time where you had to complete a task but didn't know how to do", I could point to my channel and showcase the quality. It was especially heartwarming when people commented things like "How do you not have more subs".

Eventually I landed a job and I've been super happy to work with a team that just gives me the freedom to put my own flair in my work. I still do the marketing and business sales stuff that I'm qualified in, but I play a key role in managing the social media content for the business and so far everything has been working out.

But the part that really made my day, was at a work event, I got introduced to some board member who I previously had never met before, and he said "Oh you're the guy who does the game reviews?! I actually saw one of your videos and shared it with my son, really liked your stuff."

My point is that I was someone who crawled through this page a lot when I quit my job to start my channel, and I didn't really know what would happen. But, by believing in myself and listening to some of the great advice from the people in the community, I got to learn a lot and am in a really great place. I still make videos and who knows, maybe one day my content will get really good where I can do this full time, but this experience has helped me immensely, I'm sure there are other people who are maybe in a similar position to where I was, so I just wanted to share this and let those people know that nothing you do is wasted. Even if you make a video that bombs and gets no views, you can still learn something from that experience which will improve you for next time.

Don't worry about hitting the crazy big numbers, just focus on bettering yourself, and always learning. Success will come in one form or another! Best of luck!

Top Comment: See yourself as the Youtuber you want to be 10k 50k subs millions of views - whatever it is' it's what you want to be not what you are, thoughts become things Bob Proctor - ps at events people come up to me and hi 'I bought my car based on your review, and it's how you say it is' - there's no better feeling as with OP

How many videos do you work on at the same time?

Main Post:

I'm rather curious to know has anyone tried working on multiple videos at the same time. Beginning this year, I told myself I want to do this to make video production a lot smoother and more productive.

I use a Trello board for a very simple workflow process.

  1. IDEATION
  2. THUMBNAIL DESIGN
  3. SCRIPTING
  4. EDITING & VO RECORDING
  5. RE: THUMBNAIL DESIGN
  6. COMPLETED

WHile 1 and 6 may have many video ideas (and completed videos), ideally, 2, 3 and 4 should have different concurrent videos being worked on. I've been debating with myself whether this is sustainable. I do have a full time job and I aim to release a video, minimum 3 videos in a month. I'm a gaming content creator, so recording is something I do all the time when I play. I do have an editor that can help me out but it also takes some time for me to write a detailed brief for him.

But it's not been easy. I'm so used to being a 'monogamous' video creator and can't seem to break out of this....lol. Anyway just think I should be a bit more disciplined about it.

What about you guys? Anyone managed to have a multiple video workflow process? Or does focusing on one at a time work the best for you?

Top Comment: I use Notion to keep track of all my projects. I usually have like 5-10 videos in the scripting/pre-production stage, but when I get to the editing part, I try not to go more than 1-3 videos at the same time. It's so easy to get caught in the trap of never finishing anything if you just keep on scripting and recording. https://imgur.com/a/5Lp2sX8

Anyone found a “work out” video that’s suitable for a mom but would also be interesting for a 2yo?

Main Post:

Like maybe a dance video? I need to be getting my heart rate up a little more and the only time I have is in that period before dinner where we usually have the tv on anyway.

Something similar to playing hop little bunnies, except for at least 20 mins. He wasn’t super into DannyGo

Open to other suggestions! We go for a walk right after daycare and once there’s more daylight we will try bikes & play grounds

Top Comment: GrowWithJo has TONS of videos, and my 4-year-old loves having little dance parties with me! She even has one just for kids!
